Server 2016 Essential - Connector

I have been testing a setup of Windows Server 2016 - Essential.
The current DNS Server is my router, so DNS is disabled on the server.

My test was:
Add the SkipDomainJoin on the laptop i wanted to add.
Add the the laptop to the server.

First test Ethernet:
When i tried to connect a laptop to the server i got a lot of problems.
The Skip Domain Join was ignored, server could not be found.
According to the log it tried to add the server as the DNS server.
I get the error, server could not be found.

Second Test using WiFi:
No problems at all, laptop was added.

Any good ideas why the Wifi is working but not when i try by Ethernet?

    What do you mean by "DNS is disabled on the server"? Could you please clarify what action you have done?
