Hello,
I purchased a domain through Azure.
I followed the instructions at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/manage-custom-dns-buy-domain
However, when I navigated to the App Service, and click Add Custom Domain, it fails to validate ownership.
I have tried adding the A and TXT records as shown, however, the Microsoft Learn indicate this is not necessary.
Either way, it still fails to validate.
Any suggestions on how I can add the Azure domain to my web app?

First, let's troubleshoot whether the name resolution is successful.
You can perform name resolution using the dig / nslookup command.
Can the custom domain I purchased be publicly resolved?
Is your domain still unable to validate @Sheldon Moore ? Did you try using the CNAME? As @Takahito Iwasa pointed out, use nslookup to verify your TXT record i.e. nslookup -type=TXT asuid.yourdomain.com

The domain I purchased cannot be publicly resolved.
The nslookup yields nothing.
I did try using the CNAME record.
It appears the issue is the dns is not publicly available.
My understanding of this is somewhat limited.
I purchased the domain again today through go Daddy, which does not seem possible because in the Microsoft article (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/manage-custom-dns-buy-domain) it says "App Service Domains use GoDaddy for domain registration". (I previously the same domain through Azure)
Per our offline discussion @Sheldon Moore , you were able to successfully purchase your domain through GoDaddy.
