I am experiencing an issue with Windows 2019 server. I noticed that I was unable to connect to my server 3 days ago. Later I noticed that i just have to wait about 5-10 mins to finally connect.
The system was terribly unresponsive and slow. When i tried to copy 16 mb directory from my local drive (crystal disk info and later crystal disk mark) it was expecting for it to last.. 60 minutes.. I had to strip these programs of all uncessesary files (like language files and any themes) to be able to copy them in a reasonable time. Even starting any app toiok minimum of one minute (if it was a simple app). I run some tests and the speed of the drive tested by crystal mark outputed results of 555 mb/s and 75 mb/s reading writing. All other values are also correct. Compressing huge directory into one file was also working correctly (not counting fact that 7z needed 1.5 minutes to load) - 15 gb compressed in 5 minutes onto the same drive. The problem starts when i try to copy multiple files - takes 5 second to copy single file, doesn't matter how small it is. It is projecting to need 1000 hours to copy my whole xampp folder. Quitting all apps (mysql dbs, apache and so on) doesnt change nothing. Copying/creating single files is still incredibly slow, which is probably a source of all my issues.

Reboot helped. But after 15-20h same exact thing happened, but this time machine was so unresponsive everything crashed and under IMPI there was only a blue screen and a cursor. Restart helped.

Today same exact problem.. i cant connect through RDP but managed to connect through IMPI (even logging in to Admin account takes few minutes)
Event logs at some point start showing different service timeouts at around 10pm to 3am on 3 off those different days. Writing single file is fast (after a rough start) writing multiple files is slow.

Might also try from a clean boot.

I'd also check here and with manufacturer about support for Server 2019.

    Hi there,

As you said that the reboot helped but the issue occurs after a certain period of time I would suggest you check the Event viewer or the process monitor tool to find the exact cause of the issue.

Process Monitor is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry, and process/thread activity. You can get the tool from here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon

Here is a link that has some additional troubleshooting steps which you can try and see if helps in overcoming your issue

System stops responding, slow file server performance, or delays occur when you work with files that are located on a file server https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/performance/slow-performance-file-server

Slow SMB files transfer speed https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/file-server/troubleshoot/slow-file-transfer
