Student account doesn't work to create virtual machine

Hi, I'm a Belgian student doing a thesis on Azure Virtual Desktop, or at least I planned to. I signed up for a student account with my school email address. I created a tenant (edwinromboutsbe) so I could have access to AAD syncing with an on prem AD (running that on VMware on my laptop). That works fine so far. Now I want to create a Virtual Desktop, but anything I try to create, resource group, subscription, virtual machine,... ik keep getting the screen where i'm asked to activate the offer, which leads me to a login screen, which leads me back to the activate offer screen.
When I try to add a subscription to my tenant, I get redirected.

I am at a total loss at what I'm supposed to do to get this working. I find that Azure is not exactly userfriendly :-(

    As far as I understand, i need a subscription for the billing of used resources. The student accoutn offers 100$ so I should be able to create a subsription.
    Once I have that I should be able to create the resource group, virtual network, virtual machine,...

    So I think the basic problem is that I'm unable to create a subscription for some reason that illudes me.

    • update: it seems the Azure student supscription is linked to the tenant of the school, but that sounds illogical to me. I needed to make my own tenant in the school's azure to have access to my own ADD. But everything else I want to do happens in that tenant/AAD too.
      So why did my subcription get linked to the main school account's tenant? I can't wrap my head around this, what if 5 students create a student account, how do their subscriptions get separated so each has his/her own subscription?

    I have a feeling I'm missing something crucial here... :-(

    So I discovered I can change the subscription directory...
    These things could be made easier.

    Hello, @Edwin Rombouts !

    The relationship between Azure tenants and subscriptions is one of our most common points of confusion for those who are new to the subject and I appreciate you following up with the resolution.

    As you pointed out, an Azure Active Directory can have one or many Azure Subscriptions but an Azure Subscription can only have one Azure Active Directory. If you create a new Azure Active Directory tenant, you'll need to associate your subscription with your new Azure AD directory tenant:

    1. Sign in and select the subscription you want to use from the Subscriptions page in Azure portal.
    2. Select Change directory.
    3. Review any warnings that appear, and then select Change.
    4. Select Switch directories on the subscription page to go to your new directory.
