Teams not getting shortcut for existing User, after Redeployment.

Stephen Mattern 41 Reputation points

I am trying to remove an old version of Teams machine-wide installer and replace with a new version. After following steps in (refer "Clean up and redeployment") I am finding that when the user logs back in, Teams is updated to the new version installed - however the "Microsoft Teams" shortcut is missing from %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

I have viewed the squirrelsetup.log within %appdata%\squirreltemp however there are no obvious errors here.

I have looked at the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams\logs.txt and noticed there is no entry of the following:

  • Executing squirrel command: --createShortcut=Teams.exe

So perhaps this is what is missing, only I am unsure how to force this?

    Hi ,

This may be caused because Teams is never uninstalling correctly. Have you checked this article:

    Hi @Stephen Mattern

As a workaround, you may use the old MSI file to install and update to the latest version( auto-update is OK if you didn't disable it).
