Does updateDeviceProfileAssignment actually work?

Has anyone successfully used updateDeviceProfileAssignment to assign an iOS device to an enrollment profile? It just throws this error for us, "{"error":{"code":"InternalServerError","message":"{\r\n \"_version\": 3,\r\n \"Message\": \"An internal server error has occurred - Operation ID (for customer support): 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 - Activity ID: 79f6b020-32d4-4fe7-b982-91a7ba8e9703"

I know it's still beta....

    Serial numbers is the deviceIds the API is looking for. Sure would be nice if the artical actually stated that.
