Make sure your DNS isn't blocking activity.windows.com. I have a pihole and once I whitelisted that it worked.

2023-05-06T17:55:39.5666667+00:00 I am sure there a several reasons that can cause the backup to fail. I checked all the usual IOS iCloud options etc and they were all set correctly. But I discovered that there was a backup out there that had my old iPhone X name, but I have since upgraded to a 13. As soon as I deleted that old backup, MS Authenticator backup started working again.
I found this in the Authenticator app itself. goto hamburger menu->settings->Backup.
You should see a section for your recovery ID and backup details. Click on Details and check the date/details of the last backup. This is where I simply deleted this backup.
Once you delete the backup, you must re-establish it by using the iCloud backup slider on that settings page.

I'm having this issue also, and I've identified the problem related to version 6.5.95
Thanks

turning off wifi or setting DNS to auto might work as well
