Getting error when adding a personal Microsoft account for Authanticator iCloud backup

Background:

  • I'm planning on upgrading my iPhone and need to ensure iCloud backup is correctly set on the Authenticator app. The auth app is currently tied to my work email address (which is through Outlook).
  • I created a new, personal outlook email since that was a requirement for successfully enabling iCloud backup in Authenticator.
  • It's worth noting that out of confusion I deleted then reactivated this personal Outlook address (not sure if that will help with troubleshooting).

Replication steps:

  • Open auth app on iPhone
  • See my current work account listed (it's the only account)
  • Tap hamburger menu then Settings
  • In Settings tap to toggle on iCloud Backup
  • Receive message "You need a personal Microsoft account to use cloud backup."
  • Tap "Add account"
  • Successfully enter outlook address and password
  • See message "Something went wrong. Please report an issue using the Send feedback option."
  • Tap OK to dismiss
  • See iCloud Backup toggle is enabled but no account is listed underneath (as seen in instructional screenshots)
  • Tap to go back
  • See my personal outlook address now listed as a new account in Authenticator

Also worth noting that when I try the above steps again, I start by removing the account that was added in Authenticator for my personal outlook account.
