I was having this exact same issue and then I realised that I only ever open the app and try and do a backup from my one location. Here I have a firewall. I dropped off the WiFi on to 5G and suddenly the backup works. Something in the firewall is blocking the backup. Have you tried doing the same?
Microsoft Authenticator is stuck on backups. Won't recover an old backup or create a new one.
Title says most of it. I reset my phone, now I'm trying to recover my backup from Microsoft Authenticator, however I receive an error screen that reads "something went wrong, please send us logs" and the recovery fails. I'm locked out of all my accounts because I cannot verify my logins.
So I tried giving up on the recovery. I reached for the companies asking them to remove 2FA from my accounts. Then I logged in straight into the Microsoft Authenticator app, without recovering the backup, planning to start again freshly, add all the accounts again and create a new backup. But when I tried to turn on the backup option, it gave me the same error as before: "something went wrong, please send us logs".
So I can't recover my backup and can't create a new backup. I really need support in this.

But I had tried this suggestion you gave me. I tried several different devices and network connections and it didn't make a difference. I believe the problem was by Microsoft sever's side.
