Issue with creating trust

Question

I am trying to create a 2 way forest trust between 2 seperate domains. I setup the DNS forwarders on both domains and can resolve each other.

When I go to Domain and Trusts MMC and select new trust I type domain name in Trust Name page, hq.company.com, then in next window I see 2 options, Realm Trust and Trust with a Windows domain.

I was expecting:

This is happening on both domains, one is running Windows 2022 and the other Windows 2016. They are both Windows 2016 functional level.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you for posting here.

Please try to select the option "Trust with a Windows domain" when you see the following two options.
Reaml Trust
Trust with a Windows domain

And then it should appear the following two options, please select the option "Forest Trust" you want.

External Trust
Forest Trust

If everything above is OK, please continue all the other steps.
