annoying floating authenticator icon on home screen

I recently downloaded the authenticator app which is working as if it had only one of two legs. I'm limping along without it doing its autofill business for me but nonetheless I can enter the app and find the passwords. However, even more annoying than this is a floating icon that is on my home screen, floating itself into whatever space I need to work in, and therefore obstructing whatever action I take. How do I get rid of this? It only appeared after several days. I have a picture but apparently I can't upload it from my phone :-( .

    Open Accessibility within Settings.

Open the Authenticator app from here and toggle off Authenticator Shortcut

I have the same as apparent on these screenshots. I can move it, but can't seem to make it disappear. Does not seem to have any function (tapping/touching doesn't do anything). Appears on all screenshots and gets in the way. I'm going to totally get rid of the app if I can't get an answer.
