Hi,

I am trying to setup an on premise Windows HPC 2016 cluster.

Setup:
Few details about the cluster are below:

  • Windows Server 2016
  • Single Head node configuration
  • Network Topology 5
  • 48 Compute Nodes added to the cluster
  • 5 databases setup in a remote DB server

Context:

I am yet to install base HPC 2016 package, so as I see the installation steps are as follows:

  • Install HPC 2016
  • Apply Update 1
  • Apply update 3

Issue:
When I check the installation files for Update 3, I see that one of the file is 'HPCPack2016Update3-Full-Refresh-v6450.zip'.
And, based on its description it looks like it covers the complete HPC installation.

So, the question is,
Can I do the HPC installation using this package alone , In other words does this package encapsulate all changes from Base package + Update 1 ?
OR
Do I have to follow the steps mentioned in the context tag above and use the 'HPCPack2016Update3-Patch.zip' to complete the setup?

If someone can guide me on this, that will be really helpful.

Ajay

    @Attuchirayil, Ajay

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform, thanks for posting your query here.

Yes, 'HPCPack2016Update3-Full-Refresh-v6450.zip' is the slipstream install package for HPC Pack 2016 Update 3 and it includes all the updates for HPC Pack 2016.

Also, it is recommended to onboard HPC Pack 2019 Update 1 whenever possible.

    HPC Pack 2019 Update 1 (6.1.7531) - 1/22/2022
