Hi, I would like to understand on how the communication happens between office online server and SharePoint servers.

Scenario: Internal/External user try to open a document from SharePoint library in the browser, what happens in the backend(how the communication happens) to get the document to open in browser?

Farm: SharePoint 2019 with OOS
Two app and database servers in internal network
Two WFE and two OOS servers are in DMZ
We have internal and external VIPs for web application FQDN(like webapp.contoso.com) and OOS FQDN(like office.contoso.com)

Can any one please explain this for me so that it would be easy for me to understand and open the Firewall connections?

Microsoft Office Online Server
Microsoft Office Online Server
Microsoft on-premises server product that runs Office Online. Previously known as Office Web Apps Server.

    Hi @Madhu Muppavarapu ,
As the article said" Office Online Server only works with SharePoint web applications that use claims-based authentication":
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeonlineserver/office-online-server-overview#how-sharepoint-server-uses-office-online-server-for-viewing-and-editing-office-documents

You can check the Claims-based identity in SharePoint:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/general-development/claims-based-identity-in-sharepoint

    Hope it's helpful.
