I get the error when video starts (after advertisements)

The error starting the video is: License error THis contenct is DRM protected. By playing the selected DRM-content appeared a mistake. make sure that all hard and software support DRM.

This keeps sending me back and forth, the xbox support sent me to the microsoft (EDGE) support. And now I get sent to the XBOX forum. Basically, it is anyoing paying a couple of hundred euro and than something simple like playing a video in a browser is not working. Just because Microsoft did not include a full version of edge with proper write rights.

You need to enable Protected Media Playback which I'm not sure is possible on the Xbox as you can on a PC.

If the service doesn't have a native app, you may be out of luck. Of course the adverts still play though.

If its there in Edge, it will be under Settings -> Privacy & security. Scroll down to the Media Licenses switch, and turn it on to enable Protected Media Playback.

Protected Media playback is enabled, it is in website settings, but I found it, and it was enabled.
The app is not existing for windows or XBOX, but there are apps for Android, Apple, Amazon app store, and android TV, just windows is not included.
The mediathek app which is in the xbox app store, has some passed scenes from ORF1 but no live streaming :( Has live Streaming for a lot of GErman channels, but not for the Austrian channels.

Edge doesn't allow plugins, so if the DRM isn't "standard" (and I'm not sure what the standard is for Edge) then it probably won't work, as you can't include proprietary add-ons including non-standard DRM.

Hence you need the native apps, which it would appear you can't do for windows based devices including the Xbox.

It's not looking good for you at this point in time solution wise.

Perhaps streaming will become available in a future app update.

Ugh I have this same problem with metrograph.com. There are apps but none for xbox. Pretty frustrating that edge can't handle this. Reminds of the bad old days on Linux when it struggled with this, but all my Linux boxes play this content fine now :-) Figured a system like xbox would handle such a common use case

In Microsoft Edge, go to: edge://settings/content/protectedContent

Enable:

Allow sites to play protected content (recommended)

Allow identifiers for protected content (computer restart may be required)

Plus: Update Microsoft Edge by going to edge://settings/help
