Problem installing Microsoft 365 Business Premium using ODT on just one machine

I have a network where I am upgrading 19 machines from Office 2016 VL to 365 Business Premium. We are using shred computer activation. Each machine is running Windows 10 1904, with all recent updates. AV is Sophos.

This has worked perfectly well on 18 machines but one is proving awkward. I set Display=FULL just for this machine as it was being problematic. And I can see that the error is 30050-1039. Doing a direct install from office.portal.com works (but I have now uninstalled that install as it would not be using shared computer activation). Things I have done include:

  • Manual uninstall of Office 2016
  • Turning Sophos off
  • Turning firewall off
  • sfc /scannow followed by a DISM restore health

As my ODT configuration file has worked for 18 machines it seems unlikely it is an issue with that but below is the text anyway

Any thoughts?

    Hi @Martin Newman ,
Try to download option 2 Completely uninstall Office with the uninstall support tool and run the tool, it will help you check if there is previous installation had not removed properly.

Try to check if this problem also related to user permission for accessing the shared folder.

    Thanks

Knew I had forgotten something from the list of things I tried. I have already tried that. May try it again though - oh no hold on. I have tried it since the uninstall of the directly downloaded 365 version and it reported "No Office products found" (or something like that). Just retried and yep, hat's what it says.

    Thanks again:-)
