Hello,

A user cannot delete a specific post in a channel on Teams, she has access to delete all other posts but not this specific one.

The 3 dots doesn't appear for the post.

There are no emojis, nothing is available. She cannot reply to the post, the post owner does not have the 3 dots either.

I am experiencing same issue as OP. User cannot edit/delete post. Team channel owner cannot edit/delete the post. Owner has all correct settings applied for users to edit their own posts. No one (including owner) can reply to post. How can we escalate this issue?

I am having a similar issue. I can delete my own posts, I have the ability to delete the whole channel (I am the Owner of the Team) but I don't have the "delete" option to delete the post of a member. Doing some clean up, we had to delete some members and want to delete posts.

OK, I accomplished what I needed to do. Clicked on the ... at the Channel level -> open in SharePoint. Then on the SharePoint list I was able to delete the file. Technically the post is still there, but the file attached is gone. That is all I needed to do in this case.

Can say this is still happening and hasn't been addressed. We currently have an open ticket with Microsoft regarding this issue

We can delete a message.. but when we leave the channel and return the message re-appears ..Note this seems to be with existing channels.. new channels that owners create are able to delete posts within those new channels

Bump this issue - I added myself as an owner of the team and am able to take administrative actions, but the first post in our general channel is not interactive. The menu tray (that shows the reaction emojis and the three dots where the delete button is nested) is completely missing. The post does have comments "meeting ended: 0s" and I suspect litigation hold for meeting recordings might interfere with the deletion, but that is a hail mary guess from me. I expect that since the whole reaction tray is missing that this is not the issue since we should still be able to react; it would make more sense if the delete button was greyed out... but sometimes things get rolled out that dont make sense on the surface...

If others here are able to reply stating if their trouble-posts are also tied to recordings that data will help determine if this is a reasonable avenue of investigation.

I'm having this issue as well, General Channel on one of my teams has a single post that can't be deleted by owners. No reaction tray, no 3 little dots, no ability to delete the post. The post was created by a users that's been gone for over 6 months and wer're all just stuck with her post in the channel. I verifed correct settings in global messaging policy as well. It would be nice if Microsoft could resolve this.

I'm also having the same issue. I'm the Teams admin for my job, and I have all the required permissions to manage the Teams groups. I don't have the ability to delete a bot post from an application that we're no longer using. The bot post was the first one in the channel and I don't have an option to delete it. I also went to the admin center to see if I could delete the post or even the channel, but that functionality is missing as well.

I have full admin rights, but no 3 Dots to delete that post.

I am the owner of this Team and have since deleted the Survey Monkey app from the Team, however this post does not give any option to delete it.

Any thoughts?

April 2024. I've made sure that Team and Channel Owners have permission to delete posts. I am a Team and Channel Owner. I delete posts but they keep coming back. Options under Member Permissions to allow Members and Owners to edit their own posts used to exist but now do not.

Wow - almost a full year, and no solution? I'm having a similar issue with a bot post. The bot was removed, but I can't get rid of the stupid posts in our 'General' channel...

Can other team members reply to this post? And normally the 3 dots and emojis won't appear until we select or hover over the post. Do you mean currently neither the post owner nor the other channel members can see the "···" on this problematic post?

As far as I know, team owner can have the capability to delete sent any messages if the setting is turned on in the messaging policy applied to the owner. Is this user you are talking abour the team owner and you've already turned on the "Owners can delete sent messages" setting in messaging policy? If this is not the case, I'd recommend enabling the setting via Teams admin center, wait for some time and then check if the owner of the team can delete this problematic post from the channel.

Encountered same problem as the owner of the Channel. Here’s my solution: Manage team (under your Channel main teams, the 3 dots beside the title) > Settings > Member permissions. Check the box to give member option to delete their messages.

Go back to the channel to delete said post/announcement. Then return to setting to uncheck the same box again if necessary.

I found that enabling the two deletion toggles in the default Teams policy did not do the trick. I couldn't find the settings panel which controls the deletion settings of individual Teams and Channels within the Teams client. You have to go to the settings panel for the Team or Channel in the Teams Admin Console. So Teams / Manage Teams / "your team or channel" / Settings Tab / Edit the members permission section at the top / turn on deletion for owners and or members.

The distinction in this thread is between posts and messages. I think the ability to delete one's own messages (and as an admin to delete anyone's messages) is pretty universal. No one seems to have figured out how to delete an entire post though. Not the channel (that's one level up) or the messages (that's one level down), but the post.
