UNNotificationServiceExtension is not being invoked

I downloaded the MonkeyNotify sample from the Xamarin.iOS samples repository. The NotificationService class is never called. When the notification is expanded, the title configured in the NotificationService class is not visible.
Is there anything that needs to be changed in the app configuration to execute the code from the NotificationService class?
