VM's with Ubuntu 20.04 - unable to enable replication - Site recovery extension does not support the operating system: unknown with kernel version: 5.11.0-1025-azure running on the Azure virtual machine.

We are trying to setup couple of VMs for replication. However, we are getting the error:

Site recovery extension does not support the operating system: unknown with kernel version: 5.11.0-1025-azure running on the Azure virtual machine.

I understand that you are trying to enable replication for VMs and it failed with error "Kernel version not supported". Going by the error message, it looks like the version of kernel on your VMs OS is not supported per official list of supported kernel versions - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/azure-to-azure-support-matrix

To enable replication, you need to lower the kernel version that matches the supported list of kernels.

uname -r shows: 5.11.0-1025-azure

cat /proc/version shows:

Linux version 5.11.0-1025-azure (buildd@lgw01-amd64-015) (gcc (Ubuntu 9.3.0-17ubuntu1~20.04) 9.3.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.34) #27~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 7 15:02:06 UTC 2022

As you can see it is Azure Kernel. on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. As per document, it says Azure SIte recovery rolls out hot fix patch on top of latest mobility agent version within 15 days. So, I'm not sure what we need to do here to get this working

Please check the note under Ubuntu in the same Support Matrix link - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/azure-to-azure-support-matrix#supported-debian-kernel-versions-for-azure-virtual-machines

This applies to 5.11 as well.

However, we will be doing 9.48 Hotfix 3 release next week. This kernel will be supported.

Update:

The hotfix has been released. You can start using it.

I tried just now and still getting the following error:

Site recovery extension does not support the operating system: unknown with kernel version: 5.11.0-1025-azure running on the Azure virtual machine.

Apart from starting the replication, is there anything else we need to do?
