Enable Input Method Editor when connecting to an Azure virtual machine using browser and the Azure portal

I connect to Azure virtual machine using browser and the Azure portal, I have a desktop application based on .NET Framework, in a textbox, when user inputs "[", we need to show a dropdown(or a popup) to let user select something. It works when connecting to Azure virtual machine using remote desktop.
However, if using browser to connect, and Input Method Editor is off, the dropdown cannot be shown, if turn the Input Method Editor on, even I don't select a remote keyboard layout, the dropdown will show. Does anyone know why the Input Method Editor option affects the dropdown? Many thanks.

When you are connecting via browser, I am assuming you are connecting to Azure virtual desktop VMs/session hosts.
By default, I don't think Input Method Editor is enabled for browser connects to the session host VMs. You will have to enable them from here-

I am very happy to see your answer. yes, by default, the option is "Off", in our program, when user presses "[" from the keyboard, we will show a dropdown automatically, it is the same as you click a comboBox, then the dropdown shows. However, we found that the dropdown cannot be opened when I'm connecting via browser with the Enable Input Method option is "Off", but if I turn the option on, then dropdown can be opened, We just wonder how the "Enable Input Method Editor" option works, we need to document this to customer, and need to explain the reason. We search a lot on the internet, but didn't get the answer. Looking forward to your further response。

Hi @Xiong, Yujun , so if my understanding is right, when you connect via Remote Desktop, that time even if the Enable Input Method Editor is off, but the moment you press "[", the Input Method Editor gets enabled right? And, you want to know, why pressing "[" in the browser session does not enable the Input Method Editor, instead you have to manually hover over that enable option and click on it to enable the IME? Is my understanding correct now?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear.
If I connect via Remote Desktop, actually I don't know whether Enable Input Method is on or off because I don't see this setting, it looks like I'm using my physical machine.
When I connect via browser, the drop down cannot show automatically when I press "[", I can see the option is off at this moment. Then I manually enable the option, and now, the drop down can show automatically when I press "[".

Thanks for making it clear now.
When you are connecting to your AVD session host via browser, it is the default behavior you can expect, and you will have to first turn on or enable the IME (Input Method Editor), only then will you see the dropdown.
As far as connecting to the session host/VM via remote desktop is concerned, you can check and see that the IME would most likely be enabled by default. You can verify by pressing "Alt+Shift" and you will get a popup of the IME being Enabled. This will explain the default behavior in Remote Desktop Session connects and how it differs from browser connects.

Dear @srbhatta-MSFT ,

I realize that after I logout of the VDI session and login again, the Input Method Editor is disabled again. Is there a way to keep it enabled?
