500 Internal Server Error on VM

When I try to logon to the Windows server 2012R2, I keep receiving repetitive error saying “An internal error has occurred” and have to keep trying to connect upwards of 50 times before it will finally allow me to connect to the VM. I have tried this on two different computer, but the problem is still happening anytime I have to get onto the VM. Is this an issue because of so many people working remotely due to C19?

Have you tried to Redeploy the Virtual Machine? Check this article https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/troubleshooting/redeploy-to-new-node-windows

Please let us know how things goes, and if does not help, could you provide screenshots and more details?

Just for verification, there will be nothing done to the resources associated with the VM correct?
Static ip/OS/Program data/etc

Hi @William E ,

If you redeploy a VM you will lose the temporary disk and any currently running processes on the VM will stop. This would cause any program data in memory to be lost. That being said only dynamic IP addresses will be lost, so your static IP is fine. For more see here. Thanks.

Thanks for the question. Usually when you receive the message "An internal error has occurred" when attempting to RDP into a VM that implies that one of the following is occurring:

The Remote Desktop Certificate Private keys permission is corrupted.
The local RSA encryption keys cannot be accessed.
TLS protocol is disabled.
The certificate is corrupted or expired.

Since you are receiving an internal service error when attempting to connect to your VM. I'd advise you to take a look at this doc here. This doc explains what "An internal error has occurred" means and offers solutions. I am sorry your issue was not resolved by my answer. Can you verify that your Windows Server VM is an ARM VM and not a Classic VM? This would allow me to provide more specific guidance. Also, what size is your VM? For example, a dev mobile backend for a personal project of mine is on a B1S Windows VM. Because of the very limited memory on that specific SKU, it takes a few tries for me to RDP into it. Therefore, it would be helpful to know the specific SKU of your VM so I can dive deeper into your specific issue.

Hey William,

Before that issue occurred, did you make any new configurations?
Please check whether there’s another app using RDP port?
And enable all supported TLS versions on VM
