How many times per day does Windows 10 need to force a restart?

One of my other machines restarted last might without my permission. I can't possibly run an unattended server using Windows 10, can I? Microsoft has made apps like Plex completely useless, because there's no way to keep the computer running. This machine just requested the second restart today. How many times does Windows 10 need to update and restart per day? Has Microsoft ever considered the possibility that people might want to use their computers for things other than updating the OS? Thanks.

    Hi LorenMeck-2208,

    If your PC is automatically restarting after an update you will need to change some settings in order to prevent it happening in the future:

    Click on the “Start” button and type
    gpedit.msc
    press Enter.
    2. In the Local Group Policy Editor, go to
    Computer Configuration ->
    ->Administrative Templates->
    -> Windows Components->
    -> Windows Update
    3. Double-click on “No auto-restart with automatic installations of scheduled updates”.
    4. Select "Enabled", and then click "OK".
    5. Close the local group policy editor.

    Hello Loren,
    After an update is installed, Windows 10 attempts automatic restart outside of active hours. If the restart does not succeed after seven days (by default), the user will see a notification that restart is required.

    Windows 10 checks for updates once a day. It does this automatically in the background. Windows doesn't always check for updates at the same time each day, changing its schedule by a few hours to ensure that Microsoft's servers aren't overwhelmed by an army of PCs checking for updates at the same time.
