Why my computer refuse to connect to shared folder?

For the record, I have two computers to be exact, one is a laptop used as a thin client connecting to my main desktop for file sharing. Everything was fine until I decided to turn on password protection to add security layer and everything went awry from there and turned off the password protection in the sharing settings. Now every time I try to connect to a network shared folder it ask me for a password despite the network is not password protected. The other laptops connect to my desktop just fine and doesn't ask passwords, but mine does.

I have tried everything from turning off the firewall on both devices and deleting windows credentials and dabble with the file permissions. I am at my wits end.

    Hi there,

This behavior may occur if all the following conditions are true:

-NetBIOS over TCP/IP is not turned on (enabled) on one or more computers in the workgroup.
-The Computer Browser service is not started or is turned off on one or more computers in the workgroup.

You can try the troubleshooting steps from here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/you-cannot-access-shared-files-and-folders-or-browse-computers-in-the-workgroup-with-windows-xp-9db8b9e5-7c90-35de-a2ca-c3eede1ea026.

If the above steps are helpful you can try the below steps and see if they are helpful.
    -Go to Control Panel.
    -Click Network and Internet.
    -Click Network and Sharing Center.
    -Click advance sharing settings.
-Under Change sharing options for different network profiles, click the "down arrow" under Private. Hover to HomeGroup connections, and then click "Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended)".
    -Click Save changes.
