Cannot install Office - Error Code 0-2054

I recently purchased a new computer, which came pre-installed with the "Click to Run" version of Microsoft Office 365. Our organization does not use Office 365, and instead, we use the full Office Standard version.

I uninstalled Office from the computer and attempted to install Office Standard using the "Office Deployment Tool 2021" executable. After a few seconds, it shows an error message that states it "Couldn't install". The code provided is "Error Code: 0-2054 (0)".

I have tried:

  • Uninstalling the 3rd party firewall and antivirus that came with the machine
  • Turning off the Microsoft firewall and antivirus
  • Running the Office Removal Tool
  • Removing all references to Office from the registry
  • Removing all references to Office from both Program Files and Program Files (x86)
  • Running the installer from a different location and network
  • Resetting the machine to factory defaults and starting over

Nothing has worked. What can I do to get my copy of Office Standard installed on this new computer?

    Hi,

I had the same Problem and the solution was rather simple. I hope, I can help somebody with it.

In my case I have installed an Office 2021 version.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you have already downloaded the offline installation files. You can go to steep number 5. Else:

    1. If you don´t have downloaded configuration.xml file, please do it. For the configuration.xml file you can do that at: https://config.office.com/ you muss to go through the wizard until you have configured your office to download. Download your .xml file in Export (upon right on the website) and save it in a install folder.
    2. Download the Office Deployment Tool and install it.
    3. Copy the setup.exe file from Office Deployment Tool to the same folder in which the configuration.xml file is.
    4. Now you need to download the Office offline installation. For this you need the following command on Command Prompt (cmd) as Administrator, go to you install folder (e.g. d:\install\office with dir d:\install\office), in which your configuration.xml and your setup.exe from the Office Deployment Tool file are. Write or paste the following command: setup /download configuration.xml Press the enter key and wait till the download is complete.
    5. To install it, you can on the same the Command Prompt (cmd) as Administrator, in your install folder to write or to paste the following command: setup.exe /configure configuration.xml Press the enter key and way till the the installation is done.
    6. You should now have your version of Office installed.

It asked me where to extract the files, ended up with 5 files, 4 were .xml's and one setup.exe, turns out all i needed to do was running the setup exe like this: "setup.exe /configure configuration-Office2021Enterprise.xml"

That was one of the xml files present, each for a different installation, like office 365 and the like. If the Office Deployment Tool doesn't ask you where to extract these files, search in temp folder.

    Hi @Paul Phillips

    Welcome to Q&A forum ~

The "Error Code: 0-2054 (0)" is a general error code, we cannot directly identify the issue via it.

    >install Office Standard using the "Office Deployment Tool 2021" executable

Which version of Office Standard do you have? Is it Office 2021 Standard?

Please share us with the configuration file (.xml) for a better analysis. Any privacy information such as key, you need to cover it.

Besides, I suggest you check the ODT tool, you can try the latest one. If you have used the latest version of ODT, it is recommended to try the previous versions, such as the one in April.

It is also recommended to update Windows system, avoid Office installation problems caused by the system.

Any updates, you can post back.
