GOG Games Not Booting

Hello all,

I recently got an Alienware x17 R2 with Intel i9 and Geforce RTX 3080ti, running on WINDOWS 11. I've been having nothing but problems on GOG Galaxy application. None of my games will boot-up. I click the Play button and it goes grey for a few seconds (says Snyc 0%) but then an additional pop-up appears saying it was successfully synced... Whenever I play games on both Steam or Epic Games applications they run and work PERFECT... like a charm. It's only GOG games that aren't playing. Sometimes like for STALKER Call of Pripyat, the game is actually RUNNING IN TASK MANAGER, but nothing appears on screen. Makes no sense. So here are some things I have tried ladies and gentleman

-All graphics drivers are up to date
-I have all the MICROSOFT visuals and DirectX up to date
-I've edited all compatibility options from the .exe (disable fullscreen optimization. Scaling. Run in older windows, run as administrator, etc.

  • I've done a full BIOS scan of hardware, no issues present
  • I've also ensured my Nvidia GeForce is set as exclusive MAIN source for games to boot
  • I've tried downloading Heroic launcher to see if it'd finally run. No luck
  • I've tried downloading the game off a browser from official website. I ran offline installer, game still won't boot
  • I've edited my system registry. I've tried changing some of the codes for .exe files to boot.
  • I've tried tried checking everything you can think of in Command Prompt
  • I've tried disabling all startup and programs (excluding MICROSOFT stuff) on msconfig. Nothing
  • I've tried Steam and adding a Non-Steam game through there.

Probably a few other things as well. It perplexes me and amazes me how I cannot virtually get GOG games to work. Am I the only person? To repeat, all other games purchased from Steam and Epic work like a charm. If anybody could help me out and try to get GOG games running it would mean the WORLD to me. I've contacted customer support for GOG and even Alienware customer service. Nobody can seem to figure it out. THANKS in advance people.

-Markus

    Hi,

Thank you for your question and reaching out.

Based on the information you have provided above, I would suggest to perform a clean boot process on the device then try running your games again. To perform the process, kindly follow the steps below:

    1. Sign in to the computer as an administrator. If you don't have an administrator account, you can create one. Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10.
    2. In the search box on the taskbar, type MSCONFIG and select System Configuration from the results.
    3. On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
System Configuration - Services tab - Hide all Microsoft services check box checked - Disable all
    4. Click on Apply then OK then restart your device.

If the steps above won't help, I would suggest to perform a repair installation on your device. You will have to create a Windows 11 ISO file from this link first: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 After doing so, kindly follow the steps below:

    Steps to perform repair upgrade:

    1. Locate the Windows 11 ISO file matching requirements mentioned above and right click on it, select Mount.
    2. After this, open File Explorer (press Windows key + E) and you will find that the ISO file has been mounted to a DVD drive.
    3. Under that DVD drive, you will find a file named setup.exe. Double click on it to open the file.
    4. Click Yes in the User Account Control confirmation prompt.
    5. After this, Windows will start preparing for Windows 11 Setup. This may take a minute or less.
    6. Under Install Windows 11, click on Change how Setup download updates.
    7. Here, you can select whether you want to get updates during this repair upgrade. If you do not want any updates, you can click on Not right now. If you like, you can uncheck I want to help make the installation better option here. Click Next.
    8. In the next screen, Accept the licensing terms to continue.
    9. After this, setup will check your system to make sure you’re ready to install the upgrade. If there are any additional requirements from the setup, you’ll be shared about it.
    10. In few moments, you will get Ready to install screen. Here, you can click on Change what to keep.
    11. Under Choose what to keep, you can select either to keep personal files and apps or keep personal files only or keep nothing. Click Next after your selection.
    12. Finally, hit the Install button on Ready to install screen.
    13. Now you’ll see Installing Windows 11 screen. This may take a while to complete, depending upon your system.
    14. Once Installing Windows 11 screen is 100% completed, your system will restart.
    15. After restart, you’ll be getting Working on updates and let it be completed to 100%.
    16. Once completed, you’re taken to the lock screen.
    17. You can now pull up lock screen and then login to your already existing account.
    18. Once logged in, the repair upgrade is finally completed. If you opted to keep all of your data, you will find that your files or data or settings are not affected.
