  • New Dell Vostro 3888 PC Feb 2022
  • Windows 10 Pro
  • Office 2021 (all apps installed locally)

When setting up new computer (first time installing W10) I had to change the user profile name (didn't realize that with W10 there is a PC name AND a user name). Caused a few problems with file locations, but most seem to be resolved.

Imported Outlook data files (6 email accounts with same domain, all have separate pst folders). In Mid-May one email stopped receiving email, and the 0x80004005 error began. Have tried many fixes, nothing has worked:

  • tried to resolve with domain hosting/email hosting provider and doesn't seem to be on their end. Webmail does receive mail, as does my phone.
  • verified Outlook incoming mail settings MANY times. Matches other accounts that work properly.
  • disabled mail notification in Outlook
  • stopped Norton Anti Spam plugin
  • deleted and reinstalled email account MANY times, also deleted the pst file
  • ran SCANPST.EXE, and:
  • deleted the "LastCorruptStore" file in the PST folder

    • deleted and reinstalled email account again - several times
    • In the registry, there are about 75 illogically labeled folders that do not contain any identifiable data - were these created when email accounts were created and deleted? Can they be deleted?

  • There is one folder that includes subfolders for each email account (2 per account).

Suggestions to solve this are appreciated.

    Hi @L M ,

    Welcome to our forum!

According to your description, I notice that the issue occurs with a specific account and other accounts works normally in Outlook, right? If so, what's the type of the specific account?(POP/IMAP/Exchange)
And is it possible to send and receive mail in other mail clients with this account(such as Mail)?

Considering that the current outlook data file is damaged or the profile may be damaged, it is suggested that you could try to create a new profile(Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles>add) and add the account to check if there are any differences.

And based on my research on the error "0x80004005", I found an article introduces the following symptoms:

If it's your issue, please refer to the resolution mentioned in the article: Outlook AutoDiscover fails with error 0x80004005 (Outlook 2013) or 0x8004010F (Outlook 2010).

    Hope the above help!
