Is this statement true?

Minimum System Requirements:

All customers should have Edge installed on all terminal and Citrix Servers and Fat Clients and DO NOT Disable IE 11. This is the bare minimum requirements to function today, and does not require any immediate GPO updates. As long as the IE 11 continues on the backend these systems will continue to function as they always have. Edge based templates and GPOs will eventually need to be applied but they are not required to function today. Customers have time to research and determine their best GPO options without doing anything more than simply installing Edge or confirming Edge is installed on these systems.

These is no immediate change in workflow or GPO changes required. Customers can continue to use applications requiring IE 11 on the backend will continue to function as they have before as long as Edge is installed on all systems.

Hi @RGutierrez ,

Based on your description, I'm not sure where you saw it from. What you mentioned should be about IE retirement related issues. If I misunderstood anything, please point it out.

IE will be retired in two phases. During the first phase, the redirection phase, devices will be progressively redirected from IE to Microsoft Edge over the next few months after June 15, 2022. So I think you might also experience the step of redirection.

The second phase of retirement is the Windows Update phase. After the redirection phase completes, IE will be permanently disabled through a future Windows Update on all devices with Windows platforms that are in-scope for IE retirement.

Will an application built around the IE 11 executable (iexplore.exe) still function after these transitions?

Will the IE 11 executable be completely disabled or removed?

Will the IE 11 executable still be accessible?

Will the IE 11 executable still be accessible but instead launch edge?

Lastly if some form of the IE 11 executable remains will launching it default to IE Compatibility Mode or will GPOs be required?

Thanks for clarifying your question. And based on your description, most of these questions have corresponding answers in the article I mentioned above.

If you're mentioning the webBrowser control, then it will continue to work.

Will the IE 11 executable be completely disabled or removed?

No.

Will the IE 11 executable still be accessible?

When users try to launch IE11 by directly invoking the iexplore.exe binary, Microsoft Edge will launch instead.

Lastly if some form of the IE 11 executable remains will launching it default to IE Compatibility Mode or will GPOs be required?

If you need to browse them (sites) in IE compatibility mode, you need to configure in browser settings or configure them via Group Policy.
