VHDX to NAS using Symbolic link will not mount after server is rebooted

I used MKLink to create a symbolic link to a SMB share on a NAS. I created a virtual hard disk (VHDX). The drive shows up in File Explorer. Every time the server is rebooted, the drive disappears. The Virtual Hard Disk service is set to automatic, and is running. It does not show up in disk management or file explorer. I have to open File Explorer and click in the file for the drive to come back.

I am using Server 2019.

    Hello DAV,

According to the situation you describe, I did the following analysis:
According to your description, you want to make the vhdx file auto-start at boot time. I have done related experiments in my own environment, provided that the vhdx file is initialized and displayed under 'This PC' as a volume .
The specific operation method is as follows:

    1. Open the location of your vhdx file and create a shortcut to vhdx
    2. Copy the created shortcut to the following path:
      C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
    3. When you start the computer again, you will find that the vhdx file will start by itself.

    Best Regards,
    XuGu
