Why is Activity Explorer not logging any info for on-prem label assignment and changes?

Hi,

I have seen what the Activity Explorer should show when an AIP label is applied, changed or removed from a document (on the C:\ drive of a laptop where the AIP UL client is installed) - and it looks something like this:

However, nothing like this shows in our Activity Explorer (Compliance Portal/Data Classification).
All our laptops have the AIP UL client deployed, but whenever a file is assigned an AIP label, or a label is changed - we dont see the correct "Activity" recorded in Activity Explorer.
This is what we see:

Things to note:

  • the 'activity' column never depicts 'Label applied' 'Label changed' or 'label removed' - instead it shows 'file renamed'
  • we never actually see the full filename, only the '.tmp' file. In the first screenshot above you can see 'C:\Users\ammy\documents\salesreport.xlsx'. But in our case we only see something like 'C:\AIPTestFolder\~WRD0000.tmp' or 'C:\AIPTestFolder\tmp65g0gn10.tmp'- so we never actually see the real filename, just some odd temp file.

So, my 2 questions for today are:

  1. why are we not seeing the correct Activity being logged? namely 'Label applied' 'Label changed' or 'label removed'
  2. why are we not seeing the full path to the local C:\ drive file?

Thank you,
SK

    Hi,

We have picked up similar issues with the AIP COM add-in enabled (in Office apps like Word)
Try disabling the AIP COM add-in in Office apps - this will force Office to use the built-in labeling - which in turn should log the correct data in Activity Explorer.
