Hyper-V MAC address conflict?

Hey there,

I'm currently using a physical Windows Server that is running some applications which licenses are bound to the MAC address. I now want to virtualize this Windows Server instance and keep using the MAC address within the VM (so I don't have to re-licence).

I wonder if I can use the currently used physical NIC as a virtual external switch (without the share with operating system option) and then manually set the MAC address of the virtual NIC to the same as the MAC of the physical adapter.

Do I create a MAC address conflict or is the physical NIC (which would be configured as an external switch with no operating system sharing) 'invisible' to the network?

Thanks in advance

What are they connected to? In general a switch keeps a table of which MAC addresses are attached to which ports. So if the two are on same switch then the switch is going to update table each time it receives packets from each making for some intermittent, inconsistent connectivity.
