MSDN subscription and Azure VM: size not avialble

Hello,

I've recently been granted access to an MSDN subscription, and I intended to use it to create VMs in the Sweden Central region in Azure, as that is the region closest to me. However, when creating a VM, I get an error: NotAvailableForYourSubscription. Many solutions I have found previously suggest using a neighbouring region, and I can create VMs in Norway for example, but that is substantially more expensive! Is there any chance of accessing the Sweden Central region with an MSDN subscription?

I suggest you first to check, if the virtual machine size you are looking for is available in Sweden in azure portal by visiting the following website

    azure services

If the size availability is fine, check the usage+quotas section under subscription blade and see the allocated quota for creating a virtual machine in the same region:

If the allocated quota is a problem, you need to raise a support request with Azure support to raise the quota limit in your subscription.

Hi @Mihkel Kiil and welcome to the QnA forum,

You can read full information about this issue in the following post:

    https://ariely.info/Blog/tabid/83/EntryId/310/Getting-error-when-creating-new-service-in-the-Azure-exceeding-quota-limits.aspx

In short as I understand it,

The Azure subscription which come with MSDN subscription is not for production but for development. As such it has some build-in limitations and when is needed (lake of resources) then it might have some temporarily limitations as well - free subscriptions are in lower priority. The quota limitation of creating a VM can be related for example to a combination of (1) Service requested - including the template which you select, the size and the amount of services which you already use, (2) Type of subscription, (3) Regions.

With that said, I tested and using my MSDN subscription I succeed to create the following VM in Sweden Central region

You can open a request to get quota as explained in the post I mentioned above.

Note! As much as I know, Azure MSDN subscription is eligible for request for quota increases ( Trial subscriptions aren't eligible). It does not mean that you will get it but that you can ask for it.

Is there any chance of accessing the Sweden Central region with an MSDN subscription?

Yes. If this is a temporarily limitation then you might succeed in a few days. Check your subscription quota as well. If you have multiple VM then you might need to remove one.

Or simply select a different region as you mentioned in the original post.

Note! If you want us to check in more details then please elaborate exactly which template you tried to create and confirm if you can create VM in other template using small size
