This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I have an aging Snap Server and need to move all the files over to a VM file server on a new Nimble SAN. the file server will be 2019 or 2022.
What is the easiest way to accomplish this task without data loss.

Hello @Norm ,
Based Upon the information provided.
Well the answer really depends upon the resources and effort you are willing to invest
The first thing that comes to mind is deploying Dfs if not already done so first. That allows for a level of indirection wherein clients never need to know the physical name they are accessing. The SNAP system can move to an OEM X box running 2008 and from there to an OEM Y box running 2008 and the clients need never know
This is for clients that do not have open files. There are a few solutions and I am working on one of them as a consultant, that allow for clients to continue access files even while they are migrated - but its expensive and calls for an appliance to be inserted between the client and filer
All I can advise for now is pay attention to Dfs, AD, and how well the chosen solution handles file/directory meta data. In particular, how well are permissions, ACLs etc properly preserved
