exchange upgrade

I made the mistake of doing an in place upgrade of the server that we have running Exchange 2016 to Windows Server 2019 a while back and I just now discovered that Exchange 2016 is not supported on Server 2019 so I am wondering what the best way would be to upgrade to Exchange 2019. All of our mailboxes reside in Office 365 and the local exchange is pretty much for legacy devices that do not support Office 365 SMTP like older printers and some HVAC equipment. Would I be safe to uninstall Exchange 2016 and then install Exchange 2019 and re-run the hybrid wizard or am I better off setting up a new Server for 2019 and then migrating over?

So Exchange is just used for management and SMTP routing? It prob safe then to uninstall 2016 , reboot and install 2019 on the same server. You may see errors in the 2019 install if the reg entries and any files remaining after the uninstall remain on the server

However, my preference is to always build a clean server then run the Hybrid Wizard if you can.

That is kind of what I was thinking I will set up a new Server and go from there. Thanks for the quick replies!
