IE Mode in Edge. Change how PDF opens

Question

Is there a way to configure how PDF open in IE Mode? For example to download the file externally, or have it open using the default PDF in windows.

By default, if you open a PDF file in IE mode, a "View Downloads" prompt will pop up. You can choose to open or save the PDF file there. If you choose to open, the PDF file will be opened in your default PDF reader. But I'm afraid you cannot configure to directly open or download the PDF file without this prompt, since there's no such setting in IE or IE mode.
