Server 2019 Trying to install Web Server (IIS) - Install error - 0x800f0922

Question

After a fresh install of Server 2019, I cant get Web Server Role to install. Error message Install error - 0x800f0922

I have disabled Antivirus, ran SFC(no problem found), ran dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth(No problem found), Windows Updates are up to date. Also deleted the Update cache and checked again. Rebooted Server without Network and failing on the same error. Tried pointing the source to the Server 2019 ISO x:\Sources folder. Also no luck.
Any idea what else I can try?

Hello

Thank you for your question and reaching out. I can understand you are having issues related to IIS installation.

According to below you may need to try to disable Shared Configuration when installing the IIS feature.

Also , try to copy "administration.config" file (%windir%\system32\inetsrv\config) from server, where iis role is working

Thank you for the above.

After much testing and pain, we have discovered that Deep Instinct was responsible for blocking the IIS Management tools of the IIS installation.
Thus, installing IIS without Management tools worked, however installing the Management tools were blocked by Deep Instinct. No direct logs pointing us in this direction, however in a log file found under: "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" we observed the following error:

2022-07-07 00:02:55, Error CSI 0000008d (F) STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED #1655477# from Windows::Rtl::SystemImplementation::DirectRegistryProvider::SysSetValueKey(key = a8c ('\REGISTRY\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Deep Instinct\Settings\CI\MLTF'), vn = [l:17]'MitigationOptions', ti = 0, t = 0, data = {l:8 b:0000000000000010})[gle=0xd0000022]

So we disabled the AI app and installation worked.
