I've solved this problem by overriding the Starlink router's DNS settings on my Mac. I've added Cloudflare's servers (1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1) at System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS.
Traffic won't pass through VPN when connected to local network
I use the Azure VPN client on my Mac to connect to an Azure virtual network in order to access my employer's DBs. I can establish the VPN connection, but no traffic passes through it when I attempt to connect to the DB server. This only occurs when I'm connected to my local wifi network. Everything works as it should when I leave my local network and use my phone's 4G service via its wifi hotspot function.
When I attempt to connect to the DB server from Azure Data Studio, Azure VPN client shows zero bytes in. Stack trace from Azure Data Studio:
Microsoft.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. When I attempt to connect to the DB server using the mssql extension for VS Code I get a similar exception:
Error connecting to server "sqldb.12345abcde.database.windows.net". Details: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 35 - An internal exception was caught)
Any advice would be much appreciated.
