neither of my shift keys on my keyboard are working and i think it has something to do with the software on my laptop. i have come across multiple apps that required a payment or subscription so they can update my drivers. is there a way i can manually update them for free without any apps. pls help

More likely a hardware problem but check the manufacturer's site for firmware, chipset and driver updates for your device.

There are free tools, like for example Driver Booster 9 Free
(it checks all obsolete drivers, that you can update or not)

    Follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows + X, select Device Manager.
    2. Under Device Manager, right click on your keyboard device/driver and select Update driver.
    3. Follow on-screen instructions.
