When updating SharePoint list item, redirects to list and won't allow changes

This is the item in my list

When I click to update it, it does not open to update but redirects back to the list and appears to rename it based of some pre-assigned system item number

May I confirm some information with you?

1.What list are you using? Is it custom or task list? The column 'Assigned to' is usually the default column of the task list, have you customized a column with the same name?

2.How do you present your list in a multi-level format like this? Similar to grouped view or something else? Could you provide the corresponding screen recording display so that we can better reproduce your problem.

It is a custom list and not a task list and the default column is the Account Name and the list has had no changes or updates to it and has been in production for a year without issue until around the end of June to the beginning of July to where it will redirect you back to the list and not actually bring the item up for updates. The screenshots are based off sorting and grouping in the list settings which have also been setup since the list was created and have not been modified and there are no other columns that utilize the same name

It seems that there is only a problem with this column? You said Account Name is a default column, so is it renamed from some default column or is it just a normal custom column?

Regarding your saying 'click to update it', my understanding is that the item makes some changes and clicks the group name to see if it is updated. You can tell me whether my understanding is correct.

Does this column add operations like JSON format/flow?

Nothing has changed on this SharePoint site as far as the columns are concerned in the past year. When you first create a list, it has a default column 'Title', this column was just renamed Account Name and after an item is added to the SharePoint list, it will not let you update it whether you click the account name or go into grid view or any other option, it redirects you. Below is the Account Name column which has no special formatting and is very generic

There is also 3 other lists on this SharePoint site that do the same exact thing. After creating and saving an item to the list, when the user goes to update the item, it redirect them vs opening for updates. All these lists have not been modified in the past year and only recently started doing the redirect.

Hi @Becky Russell ,

As you've discovered, this means that any modifications made by the system or the user will break the update and cause a redirect.

Instead of renaming a defined default column, I would put 'Account Name' in a custom column. You could try to make a replacement like this, which should solve your problem and will be a safer design choice.

The renaming of the column is not what is causing the redirect as there are four different lists that have been done this way and have been setup for over a year with no issues. Again, it does not matter what option you select to update a saved item, it redirects you back to the list and does not allow for updates.

Your question seems to require in-depth investigation of your environment. You could create a support ticket from the admin center and wait for a reply from Microsoft to respond back. since, we don't control the logs it's hard for us to troubleshoot from here.
