Question is posted in the old site and the answers don't work. How do I get the right answer to post with this question?

Glen Prouty and KRS03 have a solution here. I tried all the usual -- MpCmdRun -SignatureUpdate, SFC, DISM, Registering and Unregistering libraries, disabling services and removing the catroot2 and SoftwareDistribution folder - nothing was working until I found this site:

Basics are:

Download the correct definition from the Windows Catalog
Run the fix
It creates a new folder (for example):
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\platform\4.18.2205.7-0
You go to the folder and put cmd in the folder line to kick off the command window in this location (must be an admin command line)
Then run MpCmdRun -SignatureUpdate from this folder and it (voila) fixes the issue
