Delay in Audio calls

Please I need your help on this.

We are using Microsoft Teams and experiencing delays with Teams Audio calls from our office locations to users on VPN and vice versa back to the office.

VPN to VPN calls does not seem to cause a delay.

Even calls in a conference call in a meeting seem to be ok also.

But using teams audio in the office we don't see a delay.

Also from Teams installed on a mobile phone to a user back in the office a delay is not seen.

The only delay in call we are facing is when a call is from VPN to the office and verse versa.

This may possibly be caused by network problems.
Have you checked Call health in Teams call when the issue occurs?

Best way to use VPN with Teams is to use split tunneling for Teams Audio/Video.
It sounds like a VPN/Firewall Problem.

I have this experience in an office with a gigibit internet connection. Two people can be in the same Teams meeting, and there will be a 2 second delay between when one person speaks and when they are heard on the call. Call Health suggests our RTT is 17ms, so network issues do not explain this delay. It seems to exists on the MS server side. This is observed whether or not video is running for the call.
