How to Rename an Azure P2S VPN Connection
How do we rename the Azure P2S VPN connection listed in the Network Connections and Azure VPN Client? We're using InTune to deploy the profile, but no matter what I change in the profile.xml or the name, it doesn't seem to update the name on the workstation. The workstation is listed as compliant, so it's receiving the policy. Thank you.

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & I hope you are doing well.
I understand that you are using Azure VPN Client and have a requirement to change the name of the P2S VPN Connection. In the .xml configuration file, you have to update the <name> tag to the required name.
Please let me know if this helps.
Thanks,

Hmm, looks like that only works after the user connects once. When the profile is first loaded onto the computer, both the network adapter and VPN names are the name of the P2S connection. After the user
connects the first time, it changes the listing in the Azure VPN Client, but not the network adapter. Shouldn't these two items match and be created to be the same name? -

2022-07-16T06:48:37.95+00:00 Hi @Anon4343 ,
I did a lab by directly downloading the VPN client and loading it (not as an Intune Profile)
I saw that both the VPN Listing in VPN Client and Adapter had the same name (the one we specify using name tag) even before the user connected for the first time.Even after connecting, I did not see the name changing.
With respect to,
Shouldn't these two items match and be created to be the same name?
Yes, ideally, the connection will not work if there is a mismatch between the Adapter name and the connection name. Can you please provide me with a screenshot of the Azure VPN Client List Name and Adapter Name?
Both before and after the user connects for the first time would really be useful. Thanks,

2022-07-18T14:35:49.063+00:00 Looks like the name doesn't always change after the connection is made. The listing in the Azure VPN Client and the Network Adapter are the same. The name tag in the profile xml file is being ignored. In your lab, try changing the name tag in the xml file and see if anything gets updated permanently.

2022-07-18T15:40:59.663+00:00 Hi @Anon4343 ,
Every time we make some modifications to the XML File, we must import the file again to the VPN Client.
I hope the Intune profile pushes the changes to users' devices whenever there is a change in the XML file.In my lab environment, I updated the name tag once more and imported it again.
I can see a new profile getting created along with the adapter, both having the same new name. Can you please check if the issue is reproducible without Intune, i.e, by directly importing the profile?
Thanks,

2022-07-19T15:41:03.65+00:00 Hi @Anon4343 ,
Can you please let me know if you were able to repo without Intune?
Kindly verify if the Intune profile is pushing the updates every time we make changes in the XML file. Thanks,

2022-07-19T15:52:41.12+00:00 How would I be able to reproduce without InTune? If I try to import the profile.xml into the Azure VPN Client, the import step still requests information like connection name. If I delete the network adapter and the Azure VPN Client profile for the connection, they do come back after a synchronization. They do not come back with the desired name.

2022-07-19T20:09:17.58+00:00 The name of the connection does not change unless someone goes into the client and clicks on the connection. When you click Home, it reverts. I'll send you pictures.
