Total Sqlpool storage Size

Hi,

What is the query to use total used storage space of a dedicated sqlpool and how much is left. Does the space auto extend when the size approaches to its limit. Is there anyway we can configure some alert mechanism

As I understand your query, you want to know if there is any query that we can run in Dedicated sql pool to check the space allocation details. Please let me know if my understanding is incorrect.

You can leverage the in-built stored procedure sp_spaceused for this purpose. To run the SP, use this command exec sp_spaceused

Additionally, Here is the maximum capacity allowed for database of dedicated SQL pool in Azure Synapse Analytics:

Gen1: 240 TB compressed on disk. This space is independent of tempdb or log space, and therefore this space is dedicated to permanent tables. Clustered columnstore compression is estimated at 5X. This compression allows the database to grow to approximately 1 PB when all tables are clustered columnstore (the default table type).

Gen2: Unlimited storage for columnstore tables. Rowstore portion of the database is still limited to 240 TB compressed on disk.

Here is the response from PG team : "There is no limit of DW size, if everything is in column store. The 240TB limit is for the row store component of the tables. The information is in our public documentation Capacity limits for dedicated SQL pool - Azure Synapse Analytics | Microsoft Learn "

Regarding the query , if we have the option to increase the DB size, "This is a database as a service, so this management is not in customer's hand"
