I have a small 5 user (Win10) and a Windows Server 2012 network. The server needs to be replaced or removed from the network. I was considering just removing the Win 2012 server and then having the PC's just be on a workgroup network. We were looking at this for cost reduction and not having to buy a new server. Can you tell me in general if this is a bad or okay descion?

None of my applications require a server and I use the server now for the print/file management ... I understand because of the web this is becomming a more popular descion.

    Hi there,

Server license depends upon the needs and daily scenario of your work environment . As you have 5 users you can have individual PC instead of server . Server is suitable for managing multiple devices, services and files via a server.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions please let me know and I will be glad to help you out.

Nothing too specific. Your active directory domain controller also provides integrated DNS name resolution. Removing the name server will present new challenges. Network discovery may work out but many struggle with this. The member's firewall will change from Domain to either Public or Private as well.

Networking tasks between members will become more problematic without a name server on the network. Other than that should be fine to do.
