Different Teams and Email Addresses for External Contacts

I have a large (~7000) number of external contacts that have different email addresses and Teams addresses. I am trying to update the Chat field on the Outlook contact card so my users have a quick way to look up the contact's Teams address but I can't seem to locate where that data is stored.

I have tried adding "SIP:address@keyman " to the Contact's EmailAddresses but it isn't visible anywhere in Outlook.

Environment
Hybrid On-Prem Exchange 2019
Outlook Client (MS 365 Apps for Enterprise)
Contacts are NOT sync'd to 365

As seen in the screenshot, the Chat address currently matches the user's email address.

From this blog, we can know that the Chat is controlled by SIP for mailbox, but need 24-48 hours for the change to be reflected throughout the 365 platform.

Could you provide more detailed about the "external contacts"? Where are they hosted? And how do you created them?

I will keep an eye out for the SIP/Chat address to refresh in the Outlook interface but I don't think the 24-48 hours applies as these contact objects are completely on-prem and I have forced the address book update. The contacts are imported from a data feed from another company and added/updated in our on-prem AD. They are all visible in Outlook via the GAL but none of the contacts are sync'd into AzureAD.

I am really surprised there isn't an easier way to control the Chat field.

Do you mean that you create those users in the "mail user" type in Exchange admin center? If so, I think the SIP will not work for those Mail User, because they don't supported for it.

By the way, Exchange online Contact will not show on Exchange on-premises. This is expected behavior.

These objects currently have a MailContact recipient type. They are not MailUser objects.

It looks like the short answer is that MS does not support setting the Chat address separate from the email address for Mail Contacts either

Exchange Online really does not factor in to this. As I said before. The Contacts are in my on-premises Exchange and NOT synchronized to EOL or Azure in any way.
