The in-house developed application is currently running on the Windows Server platform and Microsoft Terminal Services to host multiple users. Every user has its own set of configurations and executable files to run the application and interact with the database.

We need to achieve better redundancy of our file services in a shared terminal server environment by adopting Microsoft Cluster Shared Volumes across all terminal servers on a shared farm.
The suggested architecture is illustrated in the diagram.

Environment details:
• Platform – VMware Cloud on AWS
• OS – Windows Server 2012/2016/2019
• Access model – Microsoft Terminal Services

The questions we have are as follows:

  1. Will our suggested architecture be supported by Microsoft from the CSV perspective? CSV in our case will be used to store data and executable files of the application for every user.
  2. Are there are any concerns about using Cluster Shared Volumes in such a configuration?
Windows for business | Windows Server | Storage high availability | Clustering and high availability
