I am looking for advice on the best way forwards. I have been looking at trying to create a failover cluster, but need some advice on the best way to approach this. Both physical servers are identical and will be running windows 2022 server. Server 1 will have 3 x windows 2002 servers running as VMs. (one being web server, one being CRM, and one SQL ) Is it possible to have it so if the web server goes down on server 1 it switches to server 2 ? likewise with the CRM and SQL. Do I failover on the main server or the VM's? Any guidance would be greatly apricated

Hello

Thank you for your question and reaching out. I can understand you are having query related to Failover cluster.

In your case you need to configure your Web server at IIS level or create WEB farm as Failover cluster will not transfer load If any one of your VM goes down.

Failover cluster is used for Hardware failure of your Physical cluster , So If one of your Host down your VM can run on other Host.

    Hey,

As mentioned, Failover Cluster ensures high availability of your VMs in case hardware fails. In this case, if host fails VMs will failover from this host to a healthy one. You can build a Failover Cluster with 2 nodes and shared storage. As an example: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resource-library/starwind-virtual-san-for-hyper-v-2-node-hyperconverged-scenario-with-windows-server-2016/
You can build HA either on the application level. I assume your CRM and SQL already have HA partners, so the best option would be to create Web farm at IIS level.

    Cheers,
