The domain file server, Windows Server 2012 R2, has problem recently, when the client PC has been upgraded from Windows 7 Pro with Office 2013 to both Windows 10 Pro with Office 2016 and Windows 11 Pro with Microsoft 365 Office.
Those shared and opened file that should be locked by file server for non-first user to modify can be changed by other users accessing from both Windows 10 Pro with Office 2016 and Windows 11 Pro with Microsoft 365 Office. The locking entry in Open Files under Shared Folders in file server was disappeared.
There was no such abnormal situation when the accessing client PC was Windows 7 Pro with Office 2013.
I wonder if it should be related with Windows Updates. It is because there has been no Windows Updates since 20/3/2015. There were 39 updates only.
However, there has been being monthly Windows Updates for both Windows 10 Pro with Office 2016 and Windows 11 Pro with Microsoft 365 Office.
Please help!

    Hi there,

Do this problem only appear in all Excel files or a specific file?

Please check if you turn on the Share option in Excel, if yes please go to the Review tab- Unshare Workbook option.

Log in to the server hosting the file and go to Administrative Tools -> Share and Storage ManagementClick on the Manage Open Files... link on the rightSort by the column Open File and see if the file in question is actually locked open by anyone.

The below thread discusses the same issue and you can try out some troubleshooting steps from this and see if that helps you to sort the Issue.
