Multiple RDP sessions on server

Question

Hi, I have Microsoft RDS configured with CAL license for multiple concurrent sessions and I use this CAL license only for RDS.

Can I use this CAL license for multiple concurrent sessions on another two servers who have nothing with RDS. I just want to enable on those two servers multiple concurrent sessions.

What is the way to do it? Just install RD services on them or…?

The license server will need to be upgraded.
You must install your RDS CAL on a compatible RD license server. Any RDS license server can host licenses from all previous versions of Remote Desktop Services and the current version of Remote Desktop Services. For example, a Windows Server 2016 RDS license server can host licenses from all previous versions of RDS, while a Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS license server can only host licenses up to Windows Server 2012 R2.

Would it be a problem if my licensing server is WS2012R2?

Two servers that I want to enable multiple concurrent sessions are on WS2019.

So, no matter what, if I have RDS 2012 CAL, licensing will work only for WS2012R2 max. I need to buy then RDS 2019 CALs for my two WS2019 servers to be able to use it? Also, RDS 2019 CAL license I can only install on WS2019 license server. If I understood it well...

Hello Patrick, I have one more question so if you have time to answear.

Is it possible to have two RD Licensing servers, one WS2019 and another WS2012R2?

I would like to leave WS2012R2 RD Licensing server at the meantime because of RDS environment that I have and because I don't have time to migrate it to newer version and would like to setup WS2019 RD licensing server just for those two WS2019 server. I would use same agreement number for WS2019 RD licensing server as for WS2012R2 RD Licensing server and then substract e.g. 20 licenses from WS2012R2 RD licensing server and add them to WS2019 RD licensing server.

Is this possible? Two different RD Licensing servers on the same MS agreement number (my agreement number supports WS2019 also)
