Hello, I may be wrong but I am trying to look at the logs based on locations for a user for the last 6 months. I have read that 365/Azure keeps them for 1 year. But when I go to the user logs and try and search a date it says I can only view them from the last 30 days. What I am missing?

Azure AD P1 or P2 stores the audit logs for 30 days only by default - reference-reports-data-retention

You can retain the audit and sign-in activity data for longer than the default retention period, by routing it to an Azure storage account using Azure Monitor. More details are here: quickstart-azure-monitor-route-logs-to-storage-account
