Configuration Items for applications

Hi,
I want to create a CI to detect an application install. I know how to configure a CI to detect reg, files, folders etc.
However I noticed the checkbox about application settings so I tried that.
That gave me a new tab called detection methods. I used the 'detect a specific application and deployment type'.
Having done that do I need to configure a compliance rule and if so, what setting do I use?

Thanks
David Z

    Hi, @David Zemdegs

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

We do not need to configure a compliance rule, because a detection method in Configuration Manager contains rules that are used to detect whether an application is installed on a computer. This detection occurs before the client assesses its compliance for the configuration item, so the compliance rule is for the configuration item, not for the application detection.

You mention that the compliance rule is for the configuration item. That would be if the configuration type is not application. An application detection is still a CI from the console point of view.
