- Press Windows key and type “Settings” and hit Enter.
- Then click on “Apps” of the Windows Settings window.
- Now, on the left pane click on “Default apps“.
- Then, on the right pane select “Reset” under “Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults” option.
- Restart
no program is registered to open this file
Hi
My default program to open mp3 files is windows media player, however when I click on hyper links with .mp3 file destination I receive the aforesaid error. When I change the default program to other players such as Groove music and VLC player the problem disappears. please help me to know how to fix the error for windows media player.

2022-10-31T15:42:39.323+00:00 This does not solve the issue for windows media player. The answer assumes OP wants to just go back to using Windows Media Player when the issues might be with Windows Media Player.

2023-06-08T16:04:39.2133333+00:00 Windows recognizes the "apps> default apps> choose defaults by file type - .wpd is registered to word" and yet when I try to open a URL link to the file ending in .wpd - excel states no program is registered to open this file
